    The school security guard is responsible for the safety and security of the school’s inhabitants and assets. The school secuity guard is generally the first and primary point of contact to the school for parents, visitors, community members, and other external parties. The school security guard warmly, courteously, and effectively interacts with these parties, ensuring that their experience of the school is consistently positive. The school security guard provides a centralized administrative resource to the school and fulfills a range of administrative duties.

    Responsibilities

    The school security guard greets all visitors, controls access to the school, and sets the tone for the school's warm and professional culture. Additionally, the school security guard:

    • Provides guests with visitor passes and maintain a safety log
    • Sorts mail and packages
    • Serves as gatekeeper to address questions and minimize interruptions of the school administration
    • Answers and directs phone calls
    • Participates and leads fire drills, shelter drills and safety procedures
    • Participates in arrival and dismissal duties and remain on duty until 5PM
    • Performs all duties designated by the director of operations for the school’s successful functioning
    • Arrive to work on time in full uniform ready to work
    • Providing excellent customer service
    • Monitor all 32 cameras at all times
    • Sign visitors in and out of the building 
    • Check emails on a regular basics and response in a timely fashion
    • Setting up for morning arrival and dismissal

    Schedule


    The school security guard must be present and engaged from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, except holidays, and work occasional evenings on weeknights and weekends, including parent events. This position has a year-round schedule, with time off for school holidays and vacation.

     

    Staff and reporting relationships

     

    The school security guard reports to the director of operations.

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Valid security license
    • 5 continuous years of experience
    • Must be able to lift approximately 30 pounds
    • Internet and Microsoft word proficiency
    • Passion and commitment to urban education and our ultimate goal of closing the achievement gap
    • A “can do” attitude and the enthusiasm to be a hard-working, team player 
    • An openness to accept and implement feedback and engage in a process of self-improvement
    • A winning personality and professional demeanor that conveys warmth, caring, responsiveness, and a desire to help at all times
    • An interest in people and the capacity to connect sincerely and appropriately with children and their parents
    • Strong organizational skills and thorough attention to detail
